Final OKIDO activity

Can you locate all the body noises on the table? It's not that hard as it is designed for ages 2-7. Each piece of food or drink has an affect on your body, dairy, bread and beans makes you fart, drinking pop can make you burp, pepper makes you sneeze, eating to fast can give you hiccups and not eating makes your tummy rumble! The whole thing is made by hand from card, felt, acetate and a dress for the background, then I scanned all the elements individually and put them together in photoshop.

OKIDO body noises!

My little body noise characters for my OKIDO activity, all made from felt to make them look cute and cuddly!

Food

The little food pieces I have been making to go onto my game for OKIDO, made form card and tissue paper after feedback form Rachel who suggested that if the objects where flat then when I come to make the body noises they could be made form felt and would stand out more and look more cuddly.

OKIDO activity

The activity im working on for my OKIDO project, the kids will have to find the body noises amongst the food on the table! All the food is made from collage, felt, acetate, card, tissue paper and then the body noises will be painted onto paper and hidden in the image. There still more food to add and the body noises to make but its getting there!

OKIDO Mini project

My new project is with OKIDO magazine http://www.okido.co.uk/ doing children's illustration, For the main part of the project we have to design either a one page story or an activity on one of the themes on the brief. Which are all science themes as the magazine is educational for 2- 7 year olds.

But we also got set a mini project to do for tomorrow which was to make an illustrated origami book on one of the themes. I made mine about body noises!

Origami book: Burp and fart

Book number two for my mini project.

Reflection.

I have really enjoyed this project, and I'm actually a little sad it's done, I also feel that I have learnt a lot from it.

Before I didn't really have that great of an understanding of what editorial illustration was, what went into etc, or how it is dealt with in the industry but I feel I know a lot more about that now. I also feel that I have learnt a bit about myself through this project too, that I can work to tight deadlines being one thing! Which when I first signed up for the project was something I was a little unsure about. That I can produce more then one idea, even if some are stronger then others. So that has helped to up my self-confidence a bit.

Overall Im fairly pleased with what I have produced in the time given, obviously I would go back and adjust the pieces according to the feedback I got but on the whole I don;t think that I haven't done to badly.

Final All ears article week 4

So this my final illustration for week four and for the project. A mix of digital and hand drawn this week, all hand drawn but the twins where duplicated and coloured in illustraor to make them carbon copies. A little bit of collage as well as the twins are a separate layer and the window is made of tracing paper to give it a slight translucent look, I did try a wash first but it didn't work as well.

More tweaks

More fiddling about, changed the jam to purple and the hair definition to a dark grey. More pleased with it now, Just got to do the background.

Twins in progress

So I've done the Twins for this weeks illustration, Just been fiddling with the colours in the rough they have the same clothes but different colours, I've tried the same colours as they are identical twins but when i checked the article they are dressed 'Similarly' so in the end I think the green and red option works best, so they both similar and identical.

Roughs. All ears article, week four.

Ok so these are my roughs for the final all ears article :( Im quite sad as I've been enjoying the project. I was basing my ideas around the idea of human wasps for the first three sketches and the second one of the twins with wasp eyes and antennas is my favourite out of all the roughs, I had to back to it though and change the direction if the text as I re-read the article and they are outside the cafe and not in it DOH!. For the last two I looked at different parts of the text, the "surplus" amount of jam, which doesn't work well at all and the "symphony" of complaining, so I set the text to music sheet lines, I like it but im not sure it works?

Roughs week 3

These are my roughs for week three, the first one is my favourite, looking at the "kit" the girl mentioned in the article may nee to "act the part" at first I was going to just have text across the top but I think it works better in the smaller version where the text is in the mirror. I was then going to put a little hint on the table that she isn't as dumb as she acts.

I also tried to look at "acting the part" by doing the same girl like a before and after, but I don't think that works. The silhouette idea is because it's a bit of a shady, taboo subject to discuss. And the final one is just an image in the text I found quite funny which was the idea of the dancer doing the robot!

Final FINAL! All ears illustration week two!

This is my final, final illustration for week two. I did it on an off white cartridge paper in the end so the background wasn't to plain. Done with Gouache, watercolour pencils an fine liner. I focused on two of the strong images in the article. The description of the car that smells of trees and the one set on fire by the dodgy cousin.

Rough final week two

This is my first sketch for my final week two illustration, After washing the background though I decided I didn't like it and started again!

Roughs. All ears article, week two!

Roughs for week two's article, looking at the two main visual ideas:
- The descriptions of the car.
- The idea of taking of your shoes in someone's house rendering the two men silent with judgement.

I think my favourite is the tree exploding from the car to show the over powering smell, "The whole car smelled like trees!" Thinking this may be nice with an image of a car then the tree hand painted exploding from it.

Final All ears illustration, Week one

This is my final all ears illustration for week one, using mixed media, pens, watercolour pencils, acrylic paint and cartridge paper. The only real colour being man two's christmas hat to highlight the contrast between his "morose" state and the fuzzyness of christmas.
